The fund drive to raise the funds necessary to purchase a grand piano for the
Plainfield Town Hall Opera House is over! Thanks to Naomi Flanders and Echo
Valley Community Arts, I had the pleasure of hearing the piano played by the
fine pianist who accompanied a rousing performance of Cosi Fan Tutte in
grand style last night. Thanks so much to everyone who made the purchase of
the new piano possible.
Thirty-four households responded to the emergency appeal we sent out three
weeks ago, generating enough money to not only purchase the piano but also
some needed accessories.
Many of the folks who contributed did so in honor of Jane Reid Strong, in whose memory the piano is to be dedicated. This included thirteen members of the Strong-Reid clan. The honoree, who was born and raised in Barre, was the mother of six children to whom she transmitted her love of music. (Four of her children play the piano). As a young woman, she aspired to be a concert pianist, memorably performing selections from Bach, Mozart Gluck, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms and Debussy in a solo concert in Barre on her 18th birthday. A concert is being planned for the summer to dedicate the piano in her name.
On behalf of the Friends of the Plainfield Town Hall Opera House, and the greater Plainfield community, thank you once again for your generosity and support!
Sincerely,
Keith Swann
President
